The ab crunch is probably the most popular ab workout there is. Everybody knows how to do an ab crunch…right? Well maybe, but not everyone knows how to do an ab crunch properly. If done wrong you can pull or strain muscles or not even work your abs at all. Here’s a few tips to ensure you are doing the ab crunches right.
Lie down and press your back flat on the floor. Bend your knees and pull your stomach in towards the floor.
With your hands behind your neck or crossed on your chest lift your shoulders off the floor just a few inches. Concentrate on contracting your ab muscles and keep your back flat and knees still.
As you lift up and contract your abs, breathe out. Breathe in as you return to the starting position.
Be sure to look straight forward so you aren’t accidentally moving or wrenching your neck. Doing this wrong can lead to a sore neck.
Work through as many repetitions as you can, rest and repeat for 2 to 3 sets.
When first starting out you probably won’t be able to do as many. Don’t be frustrated. Take your time and work up to it.
